I hear it all the time:
(1) Is tithing still necessary?
(2) What happens if I have to choose between tithing and paying a bill?
(3) Can I tithe my time instead of money?
Please offer any insights that you may have on this topic.

I hear it all the time: (1) Is tithing still necessary? Lady's reply: YES! God does not need our money though. It is necessary for our own reaping because the more we sow the more we reap(2) What happens if I have to choose between tithing and paying a bill? Lady's reply: Actually, those who tithe regularly won't have problems with bills because God will miraculously wipe out debt(3) Can I tithe my time instead of money? Lady's reply: NO!---people don't want to obey. Try paying church bills with someone's timePlease offer any insights that you may have on this topic. My insights are as follows. Churches cannot function without money. God instituted the tithe as a way to pay the bills of the church, a salary to pastor and church staff, etc. It is funny how those who don't tithe are the first ones to DEMAND that the church help them when they are in dire straights!

Our views don't matter. What's in the scripturs? Hebrews 7:5 "And it is true that those descendants of Levi who are charged with the priestly office are commanded in the Law to take tithes from the people---"
Genesis 14:20 - And blessed, praised, and glorified be God Most High. Who has given your foes into your hand! And Abram gave him [Melchizedek, king of Salem] a tenth of all he had taken

My goal is to become a consistent tither. I believe in it but find that things happen to block me. I know it's a trick of the enemy. But when my car breaks down and I need it for work....unexpected $700 bill here, or $600 unexpected bill there to repair an engine or clutch... what can I say? No to mention regular mortgage, insurance, living expenses....am I making excuses? No. I plan to tithe regularly. I have seen the blessings in the lives of consistent tithers and have seen people reap in accordance with their sowing. I'm just being real.

I hear it all the time: (1) Is tithing still necessary? I believe that it is. We often hear that tithing is O. T. only and that in the N. T. that we are taught NOT to tithe but to give offerings! I say this..what harm is it to give God the tithe since it all belongs to him anyway. And not only the tithe, but an offering above and beyond the tithe. LOL. I laugh only because many many people have asked me the exact same question, and I am sure many have asked this of you which is why you posted it. This is where your faith and trust must be activated. James 1:5 - 8 (NASB) If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. I believe that when one is tempted to spend the tithe to pay a bill, then this scripture would be very helpful. Seek God, he will give you wisdom concerning your finances. I was once in this same situation some time ago when I was a babe in Chirst! I chose to pay the bill and when tithing time came again, again, I chose to pay the bill. When I began to tithe (and give offereing), I never had to chosse between the tithe and bill. Tithe was always first and God gave me the wisdom on how to practice discipline concerning my finances. Maybe I can't get my hair done this week - must pay the bill. Maybe I cannot eat out after church with everyone - must pay the bill. What I am saying is, pay the tithe and cut out something that you can do without. There are some who desire to tithe but when they wish to start "something always comes up"! Something will always "come up" when you desire to do something for God. Get used to it! Someone told me that they cannot afford to tithe. My response: "You cannot afford NOT to tithe"! Why not tithe BOTH time and money!

Yes, tithing may be said to be an Old Testament requirement; and I do not doubt that. But this dispensation requires beyond tithes, it demands total surrender of ones life to God. If one can trust God with his whole life, giving Him one tenth will not be a problem. It may appear those who battle with this trust more in the gift than the giver (God) of those gifts.
